Meet Jerry James Stone

Jerry James Stone is a popular YouTube vegetarian/vegan chef, food and wine blogger, and activist. He’s famous for his simple plant-based gourmet recipes and his easy accessible food hacks and storage tips. Sierra Magazine, known for its features on green living and preserving the environment, cited Jerry as one of nine chefs who are changing the world.

His hit channel formerly called Cooking Stoned has over 225,000 subscribers with 50 million views. Jerry’s videos earns over 100,000 views each week, and his food storage tips and food hacks have empowered 10s of millions of viewers to save money and fight food waste in their kitchens.

A self-described geek and former computer engineer with the U.S. Department of Defense, Jerry’s passion is fighting food loss and waste. He helps educates TV audiences on this important environmental topic by making frequent appearances on The Weather Channel, as well as on Good Day Sacramento.

Jerry’s simple food hacks are accessible by design. His tips teach his audiences that they can easily use what they already have at home to extend the life of groceries, and save money by doing so.

Jerry grew up in a family that loved to cook. He was taught that food is community, and an important component to bettering a more inclusive world. His talent for cooking comes from his mom, who fused Armenian cuisine and midwestern favorites into her family meals. Always a dream of his to cook for a living, Jerry told Forbes Magazine that after some soul searching, he decided to ditch his lucrative job in computer science and pursue a cooking career instead.

But, Jerry hasn’t put engineering totally behind him. Instead, he brings his background into his home kitchen by teaching YouTube viewers clever food hacks and cooking shortcuts, all while teaching about the science behind it all. He even weaves food history and pop culture into the conversation while cooking his delicious recipes on YouTube.

Jerry has partnered with big brands such as Discovery Channel, Whole Foods, MasterChef, Twitter Food, Bob’s Red Mill and General Motors. He also features a live cooking demo every month on Costco’s Facebook page, and creates animated social videos and GIFs that focus on food storage and fighting food waste for Bay Area Recycling and Food Waste.

Just as popular as his YouTube videos are his fun and quirky graphic tees that he always wears on-camera. From misbehaving unicorns to clever sayings, his millions of fans are entertained by his TV wardrobe. This has led to Jerry’s newest entrepreneurial adventure, his own custom shirt.

Jerry has authored three cookbooks, Made with Coffee, A Vegan Survival Guide for the Holidays, Holidazed, and the vegan comic book cooking series for kids  spooniversecomics.
